Burnaby native Paris Gee wins CPL Goal of the Month

It has been a homecoming month to remember for Vancouver FC winger Paris Gee. The Burnaby, B.C. native started April by debuting for his hometown team and is now closing the month out by earning the Canadian Premier League’s (CPL) Goal of the Month, as voted by fans.

It all started with Vancouver’s season opener against Valour FC on Sunday, Apr. 14 where Gee made his first start for the Eagles and debuted with nearly 80 friends and family members cheering the team on. The goal, which earned him today’s recognition, came in the 47th minute by rocketing home a top-corner shot from outside the 18-yard box. The screamer just brushed the fingertips of Valour’s goalkeeper Jonathan Viscosi but the eventual game-winning-goal was too much to handle for the netminder.

The impactfulness of that moment could not be overstated as, not only was the goal Gee’s first with his new squad, it was also the B.C.-boy’s first goal in his CPL career. Gee kept his momentum going in that home opener by setting up Gabriel Bitar with his seventh career goal for the Eagles just five minutes after his own marker.

Gee’s efforts in that game were recognized by earning Performance of the Match on that Sunday, earning a spot on the CPL’s Best XI that Monday, and was named CPL’s Player of the Week that Tuesday. Gee is still one of six VFC players to register a goal in the month of April; but none will be more memorable to the local lad than his first with Vancouver FC.

Fans can witness future Goals of the Month at Willoughby Park at the remaining 12 home matches for Vancouver, with the club’s next game happening on Sunday, May 12.
