Kadin Chung makes TOTW after Kelowna “On Tour” 2024 match

Although in its second year of existence, Vancouver FC is still making its mark in the Canadian Premier League (CPL) history books after hosting Cavalry FC in the inaugural CPL ‘On Tour’ series in Kelowna this past weekend. The home-away-from-home match saw a record-breaking turnout at the Apple Bowl and concluded in a 0-0 draw against the Calgary-side which extended Vancouver’s undefeated streak record to five games.

The match was tightly contested with Vancouver taking 18 chances on net, as Wero Díaz led the way with four, and on the other side of the pitch, Callum Irving made a highlight reel game-saving stop in the 59th minute. However, only one player from VFC was named to the League’s Best XI for this week and that was Kadin Chung for his full 90-minute performance on Sunday.

Chung had a full-field game in Sunday’s match against Kelowna, leading the squad with 64 touches making an impact for the Eagles on both sides of the pitch. On the offensive side, the native of Port Coquitlam co-led Vancouver in final third entries with nine and created one chance.

Defensively, Chung won nine of his 11 duels including four out of five in the air and registered two tackles won in a match which helped to keep Cavalry off the scoresheet. The 25-year-old fullback also earned Performance of the Match for his efforts in the game.

This marks Chung’s second Team of the Week recognition in 2024 after previously being named to the Best XI for Matchweek 5 when he registered his first assist of the season. Chung has started in all nine of his matches with Vancouver this season, including the lone Canadian Championship game, for a total of 761 minutes played.
