Vancouver FC is parting ways with four players following the conclusion of the 2023 Canadian Premier League (CPL) season. VFC has declined the 2024 contract club options for forwards Shaan Hundal and Nathaniel St. Louis, midfielder Nicky Gyimah, and goalkeeper Jeremy Zielinski.
“On behalf of everyone at Vancouver FC, we would like to thank Shaan, Nathaniel, Nicky, and Jeremy for their contributions to VFC’s inaugural season,” said Rob Friend, VFC President. “Each one played a special part in our historic first season and will be forever part of the legacy of Vancouver FC.”
Hundal, 24, became the ninth signing to VFC’s roster in January 2023 after previously playing for Inter Miami CF II in MLS Next Pro in 2022. The native of Brampton, ON. registered Vancouver’s first-ever goal on Apr. 22 against York United FC in the club’s eventual first franchise victory. Hundal made 21 starts in 29 appearances this season to register 1,899 minutes.
St. Louis, 22, joined Vancouver out of the University of Alabama at Birmingham in NCAA Division I play to be the club’s fifth signing. The native of Toronto, Ont. made his professional debut in VFC’s Canadian Championship match on Apr. 19. St. Louis made one start in five total appearances this season to register 80 minutes.
Gyimah, 20, joined Vancouver FC after previously representing English sides Sunderland A.F.C. at the under-23 level, Peterborough United and Slough Town F.C. He made eight consecutive appearances to begin his first season in the Canadian Premier League (CPL). Gyimah made two starts in 12 total appearances this season to register 251 minutes.
Zielinski, 24, was one of three players to join Vancouver FC after open trials in the beginning of the year after previously playing for Hawai’i Pacific University. Zielinski made his professional debut in his lone appearance in 2023 against Halifax Wanderers FC on Jul. 7.
Vancouver FC would like to thank Shaan, Nathaniel, Nicky, and Jeremy for their dedication throughout the 2023 season and wish them all the best in their future endeavors.
Further Vancouver FC roster updates will be provided in the coming weeks.
