The Eagles bring international defender Allan Enyou to Vancouver

The off-season for Vancouver FC was anything but quiet when it came to roster changes and updates. The club brought in 14 new players to the squad from January to April which included returning B.C.-born players to their hometown team, providing opportunities for young guns, and filling out international experience. Vancouver has now expanded their international experience with the addition of defender Allan Enyou on a one-year loan from C.D. Leganés B.

“I am very excited to represent Vancouver FC and play in Canada this year,” said Enyou.

Although only 20-years-old, Enyou brings global participation from countries in Africa, Asia, and Europe. The native of Uganda first got his professional contract in his home country with Kampala Capital City Authority Football Club (KCCA FC) in July 2022 playing in Uganda’s Premier League.

While there, Enyou went on his first loan of his career to Elite Falcons FC of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Division Two where he trained with the team from September 2022 until February 2023. Enyou returned to Elite Falcons at the conclusion of his loan on a permanent transfer before making the jump to Spain less than a year after signing his first professional contract.

“Highly recruited and possessing world-class potential, Allan will add to the already improved defense of VFC,” said Vancouver’s Head Coach Afshin Ghotbi on the newest addition.

Enyou joined C.D. Leganés B at the end of February 2023 and made his professional debut in the Segunda División just three months later in May, where he played 61 minutes in the club’s 1-0 victory over U.D. Melilla. In July, Enyou went on his second loan of his career, this time to Latvia to represent SK Super Nova. He received consistent first-team minutes including playing the full 90-minutes in seven of his 10 appearances for the Latvian-side before returning to Spain at the end of the year.

“Allan has pace, power, and football intelligence to give us versatility and depth in the backline,” said Ghotbi. “I look forward to Allan’s contributions and growth at VFC in 2024.”

For his country, Enyou has been called-up to provisional 50-man rosters for Uganda’s U-20 team and senior team in January and May of 2023, respectively.

“I’m very grateful for the opportunities I’ve had up to this point and I’m looking forward to gaining first team experience with VFC,” continued Enyou.

Vancouver’s newest addition will be eligible to compete in the club’s upcoming Pink Party: Mother’s Day game on Sunday, May 12. Kick off for the match is at 4 p.m. against Atlético Ottawa and fans can still get their tickets here.
