Vancouver FC marked another historic night in the already-legendary derby against Pacific FC. The mainland-side pulled off a 2-1 victory over the Tridents for the fourth consecutive win, which marks the longest winning-streak against any other Canadian Premier League (CPL) club in VFC history. The collective effort secured second place in the League standings and two Eagles earned their spots in this week’s CPL Team of the Week (TOTW): goalkeeper Callum Irving and defender Rocco Romeo.
Veteran goalkeeper Irving stood tall in net for Vancouver against his former team and single-handedly helped to keep the Eagles alive in the highly contested derby. The native of Vancouver posted five saves to Pacific’s one in the match, including registering his first penalty save in his VFC career. Irving only registered one other penalty save in his CPL career which happened in 2020 while playing for PAC.

In addition to his game-saving penalty stop, Irving recorded three clearances, a team-high of 17 passes into the final third, and tied fourth on the squad for touches with 55. Irving also earned Performance of the Match on Thursday for the second time this season and today’s announcement marks his second time in the League’s Best XI in 2024 after previously joining the squad in Matchweek 5.
On the backline just in front of Irving, Romeo had a solid performance in just his second game back from injury. The 24-year-old defender played the full 90-minutes and acted as the starting point to the build up of Alejandro ‘Wero’ Díaz’s equalizing goal when he switched the play to the far side.
Romeo registered a team high of 10 clearances in Thursday’s match, as well as a team high of three aerial duels won out of his five attempts. He closed out the game recording the highest passing accuracy of 76.3% (minimum of 35 passes) with five of those passes entering the final third. Today’s nomination marks Romeo’s third time in TOTW in 2024, previously representing the Eagles’ in the League’s Best XI in Matchweek 2 and Matchweek 6.
