Bitar earns second consecutive CPL Team of the Week

Vancouver FC forward Gabriel Bitar has been named to the Canadian Premier League (CPL) Team of the Week (TOTW) for the second consecutive week. Bitar’s TOTW performance last game in Matchweek 19 secured Vancouver’s historic first win over Pacific FC and registered the first brace in VFC history.

Just six days later, Bitar scored his third goal in two matches to give Vancouver an early lead over York United FC. Although Vancouver eventually fell 2-1 to the Nine Stripes, Bitar’s full 90-minute appearance saw him create four scoring chances including two of his team-leading three shots landing on target. He also engaged in a team high of 18 total duels and won possession 11 times.

Bitar has now registered four goals in the 2023 CPL season and has tied Miki Cantave, who registered the assist on Bitar’s latest goal, for second on the squad with most goals, only trailing Shaan Hundal who has six. The recently-turned 25-year-old is also now only one goal away from tying his CPL career high of five goals in a single season set last year with, formerly, FC Edmonton.

This TOTW nod is Bitars third honour in 2023, previously representing Vancouver in Matchweek 2 and Matchweek 19. Callum Irving is the only other VFC athlete to have three CPL TOTW recognitions this season.

Bitar and the boys are back in Langley for the last two-match homestand of their inaugural season. With only four home games left in 2023, Vancouver FC needs their fan support now more than ever. Don’t miss your chance to be a part of history and watch a Vancouver FC match the season it all started. Tickets start as low as $25 for adults and can be purchased here.
