Irving and White named to CPL’s Week 11 Team of the Week

Week 11 saw Vancouver FC earn their first victory at Willoughby Park and their third clean sheet of the season against Forge FC. Even with a 1-0 penalty kick loss against Valour FC, Vancouver’s adaptive backline was competitive against both opponents with strong leadership in goal. The performances of defender Anthony White and captain Callum Irving, in particular, gained each of them a spot on the CPL Team of the Week for Week 11.

White earned consecutive starts in last week’s matches, filling a gap in VFC’s backline as starting defenders Pele Martínez and Rocco Romeo were both out of the lineup on Sunday due to suspension. The 19-year-old played the full 180 minutes between both matches which helped to secure VFC’s season minimum of 2,000 U-21 Domestic Player minutes, reached after Sunday’s match.

In the match against FOR, White led VFC in possessions won with 12 and on Sunday against VAL, the Port Moody native led the team in aerial duels won with four. White also had 10 total clearances in both matches which helped to earn his first TOTW honour.

Irving continued to add to his 2023 highlight reel with incredible saves against FOR and VAL, being recognized with the Allstate Save of the Match in both contests. The goalkeeper faced 17 shots in each of the matches and made a total of eight saves. The Vancouver native is tied second in the CPL for clean sheets after collecting his third of the season against FOR. This is Irving’s third CPL Team of the Week honour in 2023, previously keeping the line in Week 1 and Week 2.
