Moses Dyer earns third CPL Team of the Week in 2024

Being on the road in the Canadian Premier League (CPL) is always a tough position to be in but Vancouver FC wrapped up a two-game road trip with a hard-fought 2-2 draw against York United FC on Sunday. The Eagles went down by one goal twice in the match and each time were able to respond which helped them to snag a point and remain second in the CPL standings. For his performance in Sunday’s match, Moses Dyer has earned a spot on the CPL’s Team of the Week (TOTW) for Matchweek 9.

Dyer returned to Vancouver’s line up on Sunday after serving a one-match suspension due to yellow card accumulation and got to work right away. Although he doesn’t get recognized for contributing to Vancouver’s opening goal on the stats sheet, Dyer was instrumental in working the ball into a dangerous area and making a key pass to Gabriel Bitar to maintain possession. That effort led to VFC’s first equalizer from Alejandro ‘Wero’ Díaz and kept the Eagles well in the match.

The biggest impact the native of New Zealand had on the scoresheet was converting a chance from the spot to bring Vancouver equal once again and secure the single point. York’s goalkeeper Thomas Vincensini initially got a paw on the shot but the power behind Dyer’s attempt propelled the ball into the back of the net. The goal was Dyer’s fourth of the season which continues to lead the Eagles in that category and puts him tied for second in the League’s Golden Boot race.

In addition to Dyer’s goal on Sunday, the 27-year-old attacker had three touches in the opponent’s box, created one chance, and had a team-high 15 passes into the final third. Today’s TOTW recognition is Dyer’s third of the season in just nine weeks. Dyer was previously named to the League’s Best XI in Week 2, where he was also recognized as the Performance of the Match against Halifax Wanderers FC, and Week 7 when Vancouver won the first Salish Sea derby of 2024. Additionally, Dyer earned Player of the Week for Matchweek 7 after his performance against Pacific FC on May 25.
