Dominic Joseph, a midfielder from Vancouver FC’s U-19 Academy was recently selected to join the Trinidad and Tobago Men’s U-17 National Team.
Joseph was called in for the Soca Warriors January training camp ahead of the Concacaf Qualifiers as they look to continue their progress towards a place at the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar. This call-up highlights Joseph’s impressive development since joining the VFC Academy which has also seen him included in first team training sessions in the Fall of 2024.
Coached by Shawn Cooper, T&T’s U-17 team will compete in Concacaf’s World Cup qualifying tournament from February 7th to 16th. In order to qualify for the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar, the team must top a group that includes the British Virgin Islands, Guyana, Sint Maarten and hosts Costa Rica. Cooper has called in over 40 local and international players in preparation for the January training camp in order to evaluate players for a potential call up to the squad for the matches in February.

“I feel like something we’re strong at in this group is definitely discipline, especially with all the running we’re doing. We’re making sure we’re working our hardest because we know it’s going to be really tough to qualify for a World Cup,” said the Vancouver FC U-19 Academy product.
Joseph said he’s followed the rise of players such as Halifax Wanderers captain Andre Rampersad and admires the footballing talent produced by T&T.
The 2025 FIFA Under-17 World Cup was expanded to 48 teams and will be held in Qatar from November 5th to 27th. Concacaf has been allotted eight slots, as 35 nations begin their qualification quest next month. From the eight groups, only the top team from each group will advance.
